After almost losing their training facility earlier in the year, the PCYC trampoline squad is not only celebrating a new home, but three members are in the Queensland team at the National Trampoline Championships.
Alicia Aldescu, Chloe White and Brett Currie will compete at the National Trampoline Championships, to be held at Sydney Olympic Park in May, with the goal to make the Australian squad.
Local MP and Minister for Finance Rachel Nolan dropped into congratulate the squad on their achievement.
"This is extraordinary news and I congratulate all three athletes,” Ms Nolan said. "Chloe is just 13 but has represented Queensland for five consecutive years already!
"Next year she will compete for Queensland in three events, and she is still hoping to make the team for Junior (ages 13 - 17 years) Trampoline and I join the whole of Ipswich in wishing her all the best in this regard.”
Alicia, at just 11, will represent Queensland for the third time at this year's Nationals.
She has made the Under 13 Years Trampoline and is hoping for a good outcome on making the Age Double Mini Team.
Finally Brett Currie, 18, has been selected for 17+ Years Double Mini.
“Brett was unable to participate last year due to an ankle injury, so it is extra special for him to make the team in what is his final year of competition. I wish them the best of luck in their training over the next few months. I know it will be difficult but the whole of Ipswich is behind them in urging them onto a successful championship at Sydney Olympic Park."
Trampoline Coach Shelley Clark thanked Ms Nolan who, after seeing an article in City West, helped to secure a venue for the athletes.
"Less than 3 months ago we came home from Nationals with the prospect of having nowhere to continue training," Mrs Clark said. "Due to Ms Nolan's ongoing support we’ve been successful in continuing Trampoline classes in Ipswich.”
Mrs Clark is hopeful that more members of the Trampolining Squad will follow in their footsteps and Ipswich will be well represented at the National event.
